I’ll be honest—when I first dreamed up this blog, the plan definitely didn’t include putting my face out there for the world to see. I was thinking more of a faceless approach. So you can imagine my surprise when my husband, ever the enthusiastic cheerleader, proudly shared my very first post with all our family and friends. My initial reaction? Let’s just say it was something like this...
I have never been one for selfies, being in the spotlight, solo photos or sharing very much personal information on the inter webs. In fact, at my last birthday dinner, my selfie queen besties really got me out of my comfort zone. For me, there are few things more awkward than smiling for a picture while everyone stares at you from across the table. However, I am so grateful for them pushing me into the spotlight (quite literally in this photo).

Here’s the thing—after the initial awkwardness of people knowing it was me behind the brand, something shifted. I realized that being in the spotlight wasn’t about vanity or seeking validation; it was about owning who I am, embracing the woman behind the mom title, and showing up fully in my own story. And let me tell you, once I allowed myself to step into that space, I felt a sense of empowerment I hadn’t expected.
So now, instead of ducking out of the frame or hiding behind the camera, I’m learning to embrace the spotlight. Not because I want to be the center of attention, but because I deserve to be seen—just like you do. We all have moments where we feel like blending into the background is easier, but those are the times when it’s most important to step forward and let ourselves shine.
To all the mamas out there who might be feeling like the last person who wants to be in the picture, I get it. But I encourage you to give it a try. Whether it’s getting dressed up for a birthday dinner, sharing a bit of your journey with the world, or simply allowing yourself to be in the spotlight for once—do it. Let yourself be seen, not just as a mama, but as the incredible, multifaceted woman you are.
And remember, it’s not about being perfect; it’s about being present. So the next time you find yourself in front of the camera, take a deep breath, smile, and own it. Because you deserve to be celebrated, and the world deserves to see the amazing person you are, both inside and out.
Here’s to embracing the spotlight, one step at a time. Let’s make a pact to push each other out of our comfort zones, to step into the frame, and to own our stories with pride. Because we’re not just mamas—we’re women with dreams, passions, and a whole lot of life to live. And it’s time to let that shine.
With love and a little bit of glam,
McKenzie
